Trauma-Informed Healing Ecosystem (TIHE) Baltimore
TIHE Baltimore, a collaborative initiative led by Each Teach Inc. and Each Teach Community Ventures, LLC, collaborates with city residents and local organizations to promote community healing. The program offers scientifically supported, culturally relevant resources for well-being, including:
- Healing Us Together (HUT) and its Train-The-Facilitator (TTF) program
- MIN-T spiritual-based trauma-informed interventions
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certification
- QPR suicide awareness training
- BCRI’s emotional CPR course
- NARCAN training with harm reduction toolkits
These initiatives aim to improve social and emotional wellness for both facilitators and participants.
Healing Us Together (HUT)
In TIHE Baltimore, residents, and community leaders engage in Healing Us Together (HUT), a five-session education series using a psychoeducational, group community conversations curriculum. This program helps participants, particularly those impacted by severe adversities and violence, to reframe their experiences and tackle life challenges.
Community leaders, recognized as non-conventional first responders and trusted advocates, undergo Train-The-Facilitator coaching to become certified facilitators and receive compensation. They guide structured community conversations, for which participants are also compensated, recognizing their dedication to self-care and community healing. Since 2020, over 400 city leaders and residents have completed HUT, addressing mental health concerns exacerbated by the COVID-19 and racial trauma crises.
The Ministerial Trauma-Informed Care Intervention (MIN-T) provides clergy and lay leaders with trauma-informed education and interventions to enhance their restorative wellness expertise. MIN-T is grounded in biblical principles and aligns with SAMHSA’s 8 dimensions of wellness, employing trauma-specific psychoeducational interventions tailored for ministry settings. SAMHSA’s framework advocates for an integrated approach to wellbeing, aiming to improve quality of life outcomes.
Nationally Recognized Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certification
Participants in TIHE Baltimore are given the opportunity to complete a youth and/or adult Mental Health Association of Maryland nationally recognized mental health training course. Participants who complete the course earn a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certification to become practitioners of mental health first aid. The full training cost per participant is covered through funding from TIHE Baltimore and coordination with Behavioral Health System Baltimore (BHSB).
Baltimore Crises Response, Inc. (BCRI)
Participants in TIHE Baltimore are provided access to customized 90-minute training on emotional CPR, in partnership with Baltimore Crisis Response, Inc. (BCRI). Participants learn how to identify and navigate systemic resources to mitigate mental health and emotional crises in the community.
Harm Reduction
Participants in TIHE Baltimore receive education on harm reduction best practices. Participants are also trained to use Naloxone/Narcan and receive harm reduction kits that include Naloxone/Narcan, fentanyl test strips, clean syringes, alcohol swabs, clean/cut disposable straws, sharps containers, and tourniquets.
QPR Gatekeeper Training
Participants in TIHE Baltimore are given an opportunity to complete a QPR certification training course through a partnership with Alternative Approaches to Mental Health Crisis Center, Inc. (AAMHCC). Participants who complete the QPR course are educated in suicide awareness to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical, and evidence-based suicide prevention training.Â
